Minister Rai finds laws inadequate for development of IT sector – My Republica

KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Minister for Information and Communications Sher Dhan Rai has said that the laws, policies and rules related to the information and technology were inadequate. 

Speaking at a conference on Financial inclusion and Payment System held in the capital on Friday, he also said that there was a need to update existing policies and rules in consultation with the concerned stakeholders. He also said that the ministry was ready to collaborate with concerned stakeholders for implementation of e-Governance system. 
 

Rai further added that his ministry was carrying out a study to ascertain whether the Electronic Transaction Act of the country was in need of more teeth. He also said that the government was planning to build infrastructures to take IT services to rural people. 

Also speaking at the conference, Mahesh Bhattarai, executive director of Payment and Settlement Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, stated that central bank was in the process of drafting laws for payment and settlement. Pointing out to the risks associated with the payment system, he also underlined the need to ensure measures to curb such risks. 

Similarly, Birendra Mishra, director general of Department of Information Technology, said that that private sector and the government should join hands to implement payment and settlement system.
