KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Chief Secretary Somlal Lal Subedi on Wednesday said private sector has been playing a crucial role for economic development of the country.
Speaking at the '63rd Chamber Day' organized by Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) in Kathmandu, Subedi said private sector has been the driving force of Nepali economy. Praising the role played by NCC in Nepal's economic development, Subedi urged private sector to be more active to give momentum to economic development.
Commenting on obstruction in supply of essential commodities, including petroleum products, Subedi said that the government was committed to ease supply of essential goods in the market. Stating that the country is passing through the worst phase in terms of trade deficit, Subedi said the government will now put focus on export promotion.
Speaking at the program, Naindra Prasad Upadhaya, secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS), said his ministry was preparing long-term and short-term plans to address shortage of petroleum products in the market.
Similarly, Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, president of NCC, asked the government to immediately bring different plans and programs to provide incentive to industries which have suffered huge loss due to the earthquake and the ongoing economic blockade.
