RAUTAHAT, Oct 30: Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur on Thursday blamed the government of not being serious about the genuine demands of Madhesis.

Addressing a press meet organized in Birgunj, Thakur, a leader of agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), said that the government's decision to import petroleum products from China instead of trying to resolve the country's own crisis shows how serious it was toward addressing demands of the Madhesi people.

The formal and informal talks between the UDMF and the government time and again have ended inconclusively in absence of concrete roadmap for talks, Thakur informed the media.

UDMF leader Thakur further said that the protests across Madhes will continue until the government addresses the demands of the Madhesis.

"As the country promulgated the new constitution ignoring past agreements between the government and the Madhesi parties, it has pushed the country into stalemate," Thakur added.

UDMF cadres to intensify protests

RAUTAHAT, Oct 30: With the conclusion of Dashain festival, agitating United Democratic Madhes Front (UDMF) has once again stepped up its protests. The UDMF had relaxed its protests in the eastern districts of Tarai during the Dashain festival.

Locals in the districts have been facing problems for more than two and a half months due to the ongoing strikes, which has thrown normal life across the Tarai region out of gear. Schools, colleges, shops and industries have come to a standstill because of the continuing protests.

With the government showing indifference toward the genuine demands, the protests were made tougher, according to the UDMF leader Shesh Zamshaid, who is Rautahat chairperson of Sadhbhawana Party.

Ramnaresh Ray Yadav, who is also a member of talks team formed by the UDMF, told Republica that no progress has been made so far. "The failure of talks means our protests will get tougher," said Yadav.
