KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The parliament has announced to conduct vote to elect new prime minister on Sunday.
The parliament secretariat on Friday issued a notice making public the schedule of election procedures for the post of head of the government.
"I hereby publish the election schedules as per the speaker fixed the date and time for prime minister's election for Sunday at 11 am," read a notice issued by Manohar Bhattarai, secretary general at the parliament secretariat on Friday.
The schedule was posted after the president wrote to the parliament secretariat to initiate the prime ministerial election based on majority voting in the 601-member House.
The head of the state had earlier given a week to the political parties for electing new prime minister based on political consensus.
With no progress on forming new government based on political understanding within the given timeframe, the president asked the parliament to begin the voting procedures.
As per the parliament's schedule, any lawmaker aspiring to become prime minister should register his/her candidacy between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturday at the parliament secretariat.
The secretariat will make public the names of candidates by 5 pm on the same day.
The House will meet at 11 am Sunday and begin voting for the candidates after those proposing candidates and seconding them will air their views at the meeting.
